Believe in Instant Gratification? #SonsofWrath Blog Tour #PNR #Giveaway

Super pumped to host Ms. Keri Lake today for part of her Soul Resurrected blog tour!!! If you haven't checked out this series yet, YOU ARE MISSING SOME GOOD READS!!!

But enough of me & my thoughts. Let's check in with Ms. Lake herself as she tells us what she thinks about instant gratification.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I don’t believe in instant gratification.
Call me crazy, but in all aspects of life, I’ve come to expect that you have to work and be patient for the rewards.
I went to college, endured sleepless nights and stressed over exams, so that I could land a dream job once I had that degree in hand.  I suffered hours of labor, pain, screaming, more pain, for the precious moments that followed, basking in the joys of motherhood.   Hubs and I have gone through enough Christmas Eves, reading nonsensical directions for things like, how to put a stinkin’ dollhouse together—cursing, scratching our heads and panicking when we realized we still had other gifts to wrap—all for those mornings when the little ones would wake, eyes all alight with excitement.
The same goes for writing.
My books tend to be about 500+ pages in length.  The stories are multi-pov and I pack a lot of detail in those first few chapters that I suspect, probably leaves the reader wondering, what does all this mean
They are pieces of the puzzle.  I do my best to avoid gratuitous writing, so you can be assured, even the subtle pieces somehow contribute to the story overall—seemingly insignificant yet compelling little curiosities that drive you into the dark places you’d otherwise prefer to avoid.
My goal, in any book I write, is to make the payoff worth the journey.  Since I’m a cruel and evil mistress, the journey is often riddled with a whole lot of hopelessness and despair because there’s some twisted enjoyment I get out of putting my characters through hell, taking them to the black moment and letting them stew there for a while.
The most gratifying sensation, as a reader, comes when I’m feeling like there is NO WAY these characters are going to figure out this mess—we’re going to be stuck in this unfixable state, with no hope for resolution.  Emotions are swelling, tension is mounting, my nails are bitten to hell and my stomach is in knots, until … somehow they do it.  By some unexpected miracle—and I don’t mean the deus ex machina variety—the characters find a way.  And here I sit, with an enormous smile on my face because I just didn’t see that coming!  Even though I know there’s an HEA or HFN on the horizon, I have an odd addiction to those stressful moments when I’m convinced the author went outside of the genre for this one.
This is how I write my stories.
They’re not perfect.  I can’t guarantee that you won’t want to throw your Kindle at the wall at some point.  You’ll hate my characters, at times, and want to scoop them up and coddle them at others.  The story will have you feeling like you just want to find out what all of it means and how the heck it’s linked to the main characters.  Like right now.
And all I can say to that is:
Keep reading.
Because if I gave you all the answers in the beginning, you’d never appreciate what it took to get there.  The pain, the stress, the moments of despair—all of which makes for a more satisfying end to the journey, and completely justifies why a character would be so willing to do whatever my deranged mind puts him through, for something as crazy as love.
By: Keri Lake
Release Date:  October 31, 2013
Genre:  Adult Paranormal Romance/Dark Urban Fantasy
ISBN:  978-0-9848517-5-1
As Wrath’s fiercest son, Logan carries the scars of fifty years spent in the most dreaded prison of the underworld, for a sin he’d kill to keep secret. Enduring decades of gruesome torture has left Logan feared by and detached from others, until a female Alexi’s blood resurrects his soul from death and, with it, the pleasures he’s been denied for so long.
Plagued by shame of her own, Calla is drawn to the ruthless demon, Logan, whose insatiable craving for her touch rouses buried passions and, for once, leaves her feeling desired.
A dark and dangerous evil has been reawakened, however, and when Calla is drawn too close to its breeding grounds, Logan vows to summon the violence of Wrath in order to keep her safe. First, though, Calla must save him from a past riddled with deceit and corruption … but only if she can accept the chilling consequences of unearthing his vilest skeleton.
  2. While sometimes I love instant gratification most times I love the build. One thing that can make great stories are those characters and stories that aren't back and white. Great interview and congrats on the release.
  3. I adore supernatural or paranormal reading. I used to be the characters. Books were my passion at one point where nothing else mattered. Now I read them for pure enjoyment.
